Facebook plans to replace its neighborhood requirements to make clear the way it treats satire on its platform following suggestions from its Oversight Board.

The change to its neighborhood requirements comes because the Oversight Board investigated a person who posted a satirical meme depicting Turkey having to decide on between “The Armenian Genocide is a lie” and “The Armenians were terrorists who deserved it.”

Facebook initially took down the content material for violating its coverage on hate speech, as outlined within the social media large’s neighborhood requirements.

However, the content material has now been reinstated after the Oversight Board dominated that Facebook mustn’t have taken it down. The Oversight Board outlined that Facebook has stated it will make exceptions for satirical content material however hasn’t clarified what counts as satire.
