Facebook has began testing a brand new pop-up function to verify customers have learn an article earlier than they share it.

“Starting today, we’re testing a way to promote more informed sharing of news articles. If you go to share a news article link you haven’t opened, we’ll show a prompt encouraging you to open it and read it, before sharing it with others,” Facebook outlined in a tweet.

The new pop-up will seem if customers are about to share an article that they haven’t clicked on. The pop-up will ask customers in the event that they wish to open the article or proceed sharing it.

“Sharing articles without reading them may mean missing key facts,” the pop-up message reads, in line with a screenshot posted by the social media big.

Facebook notes that the pop-up is being examined with round six p.c of Android customers worldwide beginning in the present day.

It’s value noting that this pop-up is just like one on Twitter that seems when customers are about to retweet an article.

Facebook has struggled with curbing the unfold of misinformation up to now and this newest function is an try and treatment the problem. It’s unknown when Facebook plans to roll out the function extra broadly.
